Cara Thayer and Louie Van Patten work out of Bend, Oregon. In their work, Louie acts as the highly conceptual, but unrestrained, often destructive element to the equation. Cara, on the other hand, acts as an intuitive, but reasoned, systematic/constructive element. However, their collaborative process is not simply an unfettered amalgamation of their respective styles. Their work process often plays out like a baton relay, passing control back and forth. Other times they act as a four-armed monster, manipulating a piece simultaneously. The result of these processes is artwork that relates to the human condition both in title and form. The gender-ambiguous nature of the work allows for a more universal relation to the viewer.
